Lip Blush is a form of cosmetic tattooing that places pigment within the upper layers of the lip tissue to enhance colour, improve definition and create a more even overall appearance. The treatment can be used to restore colour that has faded over time, balance uneven pigmentation and give the lips more definition without creating the appearance of traditional lipstick.

Lip Blush is ideal for clients who want more colour, definition or consistency in the appearance of their lips. It can be especially beneficial for lips that appear pale, uneven in tone or have lost definition around the border. Treatment is not performed over active cold sores, broken or irritated skin, and certain medical conditions or medications may require medical clearance before proceeding. At Cult of Rose Beauty, Lip Blush is not performed during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Pigment selection is based on your existing lip colour, skin tone, undertone and the result you would like to achieve. Lip pigment behaves differently from lipstick because it heals within the lip tissue rather than sitting on top of it. The colour seen immediately after treatment will not be the final result; it will soften and change as the lips heal.

Immediately after treatment, the colour will appear stronger and more saturated than the healed result. This is expected. As the lips heal, the intensity decreases and the pigment settles into the tissue. The goal is to select and implant colour with the healed result in mind, rather than judging the colour by how it appears on the day of treatment.

Sensitivity varies from person to person, but a topical anaesthetic is used during the appointment to help keep the treatment comfortable. Clients may still feel pressure, vibration, scratching or periods of increased sensitivity, particularly in certain areas of the lips. The treatment should not require you to tolerate significant pain.

Immediately after treatment, most clients experience little to no swelling, although mild swelling can occur. Over the next few days, the lips may feel slightly dry and can lightly flake as the surface heals, but with the aftercare protocol we use, this is typically minimal. Most clients are able to return to work and their usual routine the following day. The lips continue to heal over the following weeks, with the final result assessed at the Perfecting Session 6–12 weeks later.

Lip Blush is considered semi-permanent because the pigment gradually fades over time. Many clients retain visible colour for approximately one to three years, although there is no exact timeline. Longevity varies depending on factors such as individual skin and lip characteristics, pigment colour, sun exposure, skincare, lifestyle and how the pigment is metabolized. Colour Boost appointments can be used to refresh the result as it fades.

Yes. Lip Blush does not give you the cold sore virus, but the treatment can sometimes reactivate the virus in someone who already carries it. If you have a history of cold sores, preventative antiviral medication is commonly recommended before your appointment to help prevent an outbreak. Lip Blush cannot be performed over an active cold sore.
